A professional instrument machined with great precision from solid Delrin, the same acetal I use for the mouthpieces and joints of my wood kavals.

Like all my kavals it has the same finger holes as the wooden models, so your technique transfers directly. The higher-grade material gives a noticeably better sound than the Intro, while staying completely waterproof and easy to care for, which makes it ideal for students, gigging and outdoor playing.

The material: this kaval is machined entirely from acetal, better known as Delrin, the same material I use for the mouthpieces and joints of my wood instruments. It is strong, very hard to crack, and it holds its shape through the humidity and temperature swings that natural materials react to. It needs no oiling and almost no maintenance, it is waterproof, and it is not an animal product. Because the material barely reacts to atmospheric conditions, it plays the same in warm and cold, indoors and outdoors, which makes it the one to take on the road.

What you get

  • A Mid-level kaval machined from solid Delrin, available in D, C, Bb and A.
  • Completely waterproof and virtually maintenance-free.
  • I personally play, tune and approve every one before it ships.

Choosing your key

  • D - the easiest to start on, the most common key, and the one all my lessons and materials are built around. My recommendation for beginners.
  • C - slightly lower, and it blends beautifully with the human voice; traditionally the key used to accompany folk singers.
  • Bb - deep and rich, but a little harder to play: it is longer, so the finger holes are spaced wider apart.
  • A - the lowest and warmest, a semitone below Bb: it's longer still, so the last finger hole is offset slightly to the side, keeping it comfortable to reach. Made to order.

About the A key (made to order): the A kaval is pitched a semitone below the Bb. It needs a longer blank and more time on the lathe, which is why it costs more. It takes two to three weeks to craft, plus delivery.

My promise

  • 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
  • 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • Ships worldwide from Bulgaria with tracking.

New to the kaval? Choose the key of D, the standard for Bulgarian folk music. Pair it with my Beginner Course to learn from scratch, and add a leather case to keep it protected.
