The first online music course for kaval Players

The first online music course for beginner kaval players is now available on my website. You can check it out HERE. I worked on the course for the past two years and it turned out to be an unexpectedly challenging and responsible task. I had to go through a lot of literature, different workbooks, many videos. One of the most useful things that I did was – I took notes during teaching sessions and interviewed my students. That was the only way to extract the most valuable information that every beginner student would need when starting to play the kaval.

I had a professional team working on preparing the lessons. Martin Baltadjiev helped with filming and editing the videos. Zornitsa Ivanova took care of the design and the illustrations. Maria Nedevska was in charge of advertising and marketing, and last but not least – I wrote the script and prepared the lessons. It was a lot of hard work but it was totally worth it.

Over time, I realized that I was one of the people responsible for keeping this tradition alive, and it became my passion to inspire other people to start playing the kaval. This is a truly amazing instrument that has been underestimated for a very long time. My mission is to give it a new life and to tell more people that such an amazing instrument exists and is a cultural heritage that deserves to be known around the world.

About the Course

The course is geared towards beginner enthusiasts who want to learn how to play the Buglarian Kaval.

It gives basic information about the kaval, teaches how to maintain the instrument, shows you where you can buy one, and how to produce a sound. It helps students to gain enough knowledge so that they can start playing simple melodies. Taking the course will build a strong foundation upon which one can develop further. The course also teaches a little bit about ornamentation and embellishments of Bulgarian music and how to play those on the kaval.

All the information is carefully structured so that it’s very easy to follow the process step by step. Most lessons finish with an exercise which helps the student apply everything discussed during the respective lesson. I recommend watching each lesson at least twice and pausing the video when needed. I also advise new students to take their time when executing the exercises. Everything in the lesson should be mastered before continuing to the next one. Of course, it’s always possible to go back to any of the lessons and review the information anytime.

If you don’t have a kaval, feel free to check the ones in my store, email me if you have any questions, I’ll be more than happy to assist you! Here’s the link to the store:
